What does the title mean?

I've named this blog "Life, and All That Surrounds It" and got a few inquiries as to what it means. It's from a Blues Traveler song called "Whoops" from their 1993 album Save His Soul. You can read the full lyrics, here is the stanza with this phrase:

In this corner
Weighing in at almost every weight imaginable...
Life, and all that surrounds it
And in this corner
Weighing in at well, not really very much of anything;
A very sound and user friendly idea
On finally bringing that pesky mountain to Mohammed

The main idea of the song is that we're killing the environment and we don't realize it. I like the song and the message, but I've really liked this one line. The concept of "Life, and All that Sorrounds It" just seems like a neat way of talking about the world. I see each of us as individually at the center (Life) and what's important is not just us but everything around us too.

Blues Traveler has been my favorite band for a number of years and this message of common-sense environmentalism is one that is subtle in their songs, but is often present and one I like a lot. It isn't crazy tree-hugging environmentalism for its own sake, it's simply common sense that says, look around at the world and tell me that we're not destroying it. If each of us can look in the mirror and be happy with our role then that is enough. It's a simple environmental philosophy that I really subscribe to.

Hey Hello,

Check out an itinerant band I play with to see how intelligent folk out there are pushing the envelope. Granted, Gabe lives in San Francisco, where a car is a liability for tickets and the like, but I thought it might interest you. The smaller one's footprint, the better one looks in that mirror.

Again- cute kid.
